Para peraih juara 1,2, dan 3 pada Kejurkot Catur Wali Kota Malang Wahyu Hidayat Cup 2026 dibebaskan memilih sekolah negeri di Kota Malang melalui jalur prestasi.

"Sebagai bentuk penghargaan, silakan bagi para juara 1,2,3 untuk memilih sekolah negeri yang diinginkan. Nanti bisa masuk melalui jalur prestasi," kata Wahyu di hadapan peserta dan wali atlet.
Wahyu melanjutkan, pernyataan itu juga dikuatkan dengan memberikan instruksi kepada kepala Dinas Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Suwarjana yang saat itu mendampinginya untuk menindkalnjutinya.
"Ini ada Pak Kadis (Kepala Dinas Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Suwarjana, Red) nanti akan diproses," kata mantan Sekda Kabupaten Malang ini.
Wahyu menegaskan, meski kewenangan pemerintah Kota Malang hanya terbatas pada jenjang pendidikan SD Negeri dan SMP Negeri, namun bagi yang akan menempuh pendidikan di jenjang SMA tidak perlu berkecil hati. Karena pihaknya juga bisa memberikan rekomendasi kepada Dinas Pendidikan Provinsi Jatim.
"Untuk yang SMA, kami bisa memberikan rekomendasi, karena kewenangan SMA ada di Provinsi Jatim," kata dia.
Dalam kesempatan itu, Wahyu juga menyampaikan apresiasi kepada Percasi Kota Malang yang intens menggelar kejuaraan catur untuk memacu prestasi atlet-atlet catur kota malang di semua jenjang pendidikan. Dengan demikian, ada kesinambungan, ada generasi penerusnya. Apalagi prestasi yang diraih atlet catur kota malang saat ini tidak lagi di tingkat regional, nasional tapi juga di tingkat dunia dengan menjadi atlet SEA GAMES 2025.
Wahyu juga mengingatkan ada tugas berat yang diemban oleh Percasi Kota Malang untuk mendulang perolehan medali di Pekan Olahraga Provinsi (Porprov) Jatim 2027. Sebab KONI Kota Malang telah memasang target sebanyak 222 medali emas pada Porprov 2027 di Surabaya.
Sementara itu, Ketua Percasi Kota Malang Tatit Budisucahyo menyatakan terima kasih atas apresiasi yang diberikan oleh Wali Kota Malang Wahyu Hidayat kepada Precasi Kota Malang maupun para juara pada kejurkot.
"Terima kasih kepada Pak Wali atas apresiasnya. Kemudahan memilih sekolah untuk adik-adik yang berpestasi sungguh menggembirakan dan menyenangkan," kata dia.

Tatit berharap capaian yang diraih atlet catur di tingkat Kejurkot ini dapat ditingkatkan di level berikutnya. Selain itu juga dia berharap muncul bibit-bibit baru atlet catur di Kota Malang. karena saat kekurangan atlet. Hal itu ditunjukkan pada saat seleksi pada 14 kategori Putra/Putri tidak semuanya ada atletnya.
"Terus terang, kami kekurangan atlet. pada beberapa kategori masih kurang. bahkan di kategori junior kelompok G usia 7 tahun untuk kaegori putra tidak ada," kata Tatit.
Untuk diketahui Kejurkot Catur Wali Kota Malang Wahyu Hidayat Cup 2026 ini digelar untuk kategori Junior dan Senior. pada Kategori Junior, terdapat 14 kategori putra maupun putri dengan rincian Kelompok A atau KU 19 tahun, Kelompok B atau KU 17 tahun, Kelompok C atau KU 15 tahun, Kelompok D atau KU 13 tahun, Kelompok E atau KU 11 tahun, Kelompok F atau KU 9 tahun, dan Kelompok G atau KU 7 tahun. Sedangkan pada ketegori Senior putra putri bersifat umum.
Kejurkot ini merupakan seleksi atlet yang akan dikirim pada Kejurprov Catur Jatim pada Juli mendatang di Kabupaten Pacitan. Para juara 1 di setiap kategori berhap mendapat tiket ke Kejurprov.
Pada pelaksanaan kejurkot ini, diikuti 365 peserta. Kategori juir sebanyak 275 peserta, sedangkan kategori senior sebanyak 90 peserta.
Wali Kota Malang Wahyu Hidayat hadir didampingi sejumlah pejabat Pemkot Malang di antaranya, Baihaqi kepala Disporapar Kota Malang, Suwarjana kepala Disdikbud Kota Malang, dan perwakilan Diskominfo. Seli itu juga hadir perwakilan dari KONI Kota Malang.
Sebeulmnya, kejurkot dibuka oleh Asisten Bidang Pemerintahan dan Kesejahteraan Rakyat Muhammad Syailendra, hadir juga Kepala Kemenag Kota Malang H Ahmad Shampton, Sekretaris KONI Kota Malang Joko Purwosusanto, Anggota DPR RI dr Gamal Albinsaid, kepala MTSN1 Kota Malang Erni Qomariah RIda, perwakilan dari Disporapar, dan Disdikbud Kota Malang.
