JATIMTIMES - Cuaca ekstrem melanda sejumlah wilayah di Kota Malang pada Kamis (9/4/2026) siang. Di tengah hujan deras yang disertai angin kencang, warga dikejutkan dengan turunnya butiran es dari langit, fenomena yang jarang terjadi dan langsung menyita perhatian.

Dalam unggahan video warga yang beredar di media sosial memperlihatkan butiran es jatuh di halaman rumah, memicu reaksi spontan dari perekam. Seperti di kawasan Sawojajar dan Sulfat.

“Wah hujan es, iyaaa hujan es,” ucap warga dalam video tersebut.

Salah satu warga Sawojajar, Hezza Sukmasita, menceritakan bahwa fenomena hujan es tersebut terjadi secara tiba-tiba di tengah hujan deras yang sudah lebih dulu turun. Ia mengaku sempat kaget karena baru pertama kali mengalami kejadian seperti itu di lingkungan tempat tinggalnya.

“Awalnya hujan deras biasa, terus tiba-tiba ada suara kayak benda jatuh di atap. Pas dilihat ternyata butiran es. Kaget juga, soalnya jarang banget terjadi di sini,” kata Hezza.

Menurut Hezza, hujan es memang tidak berlangsung lama, hanya beberapa menit saja. Namun intensitas hujan yang deras disertai angin kencang justru berlangsung lebih lama dan cukup membuat warga waspada.

“Hujan es nggak begitu lama, cuma sebentar. Tapi setelah itu hujan deras sama anginnya lumayan lama,” terang Hezza.

Fenomena ini pun memunculkan beragam respons, mulai dari rasa takjub hingga kekhawatiran akan kondisi cuaca yang tidak menentu. Namun, pihak Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) memastikan bahwa kejadian tersebut bukan sesuatu yang perlu dikhawatirkan secara berlebihan.

Prakirawan BMKG Jawa Timur, Linda Fitrotul menjelaskan bahwa hujan es merupakan fenomena yang kerap muncul saat masa peralihan musim atau pancaroba. “Hujan es ini sering terjadi ketika masa peralihan,” kara Linda.

Menurut Linda, proses terbentuknya hujan es berkaitan erat dengan keberadaan awan Cumulonimbus yang berkembang akibat pemanasan intens pada siang hari. Dalam kondisi tertentu, awan tersebut mengalami pendinginan ekstrem di lapisan atas atmosfer sehingga menghasilkan butiran es.

“Awan Cumulonimbus pada tahap matang mengalami kedinginan ekstrem sehingga berpotensi turun dalam bentuk partikel es. Namun, tidak semua awan ini menghasilkan hujan es,” jelasnya.

Ia menambahkan, fenomena hujan es biasanya terjadi secara terbatas di wilayah tertentu dan berlangsung singkat. Hal ini menjelaskan mengapa tidak semua daerah di Kota Malang mengalami kejadian serupa pada waktu yang sama.

“Fenomena ini sangat lokal dan durasinya singkat. Kejadian seperti ini lumrah terjadi pada masa peralihan musim,” tambahnya.

Linda pun mengimbau agar masyarakat tetap tenang, namun tetap waspada terhadap potensi cuaca ekstrem yang bisa terjadi sewaktu-waktu selama periode pancaroba.
