JATIMTIMES - Kebijakan penetapan syarat minimal tinggi badan bagi calon siswa baru di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri (SMKN), menuai sorotan tajam, dan memicu perdebatan publik, lantaran dianggap diskriminatif. Polemik ini berpusat pada persyaratan umum penerimaan siswa baru yang mencantumkan tinggi badan minimal 153 sentimeter untuk perempuan dan 158 sentimeter untuk laki-laki. 

Aturan ini dianggap sebagian kalangan telah mencederai prinsip kesetaraan dalam akses pendidikan. Dan Salah satu sekolah yang menerapkan persyaratan ini adalah SMKN 4 Kota Malang. Penerimaan siswa pada jurusan perhotelan pada sekolah tersebut, menerapkan persyaratan tinggi badan.

Menanggapi hal ini, Kepala Dinas Pendidikan Provinsi Jawa Timur, Aries Agung Paewai, S.STP., M.M., memberikan penjelasan, bahwa kriteria spesifik tersebut merupakan bagian dari otonomi masing-masing satuan pendidikan.

Aries Agung Paewai menggarisbawahi, bahwa setiap sekolah, khususnya SMK dengan beragam program keahlian, memiliki kriteria untuk menentukan kriteria penerimaan siswanya. "Notenya itu tergantung masing-masing kebutuhan sekolah," ujar Aries, Rabu, (28/5/2025).

Lebih lanjut, Aries menjelaskan bahwa tidak serta-merta semua peluang tertutup bagi calon siswa yang mungkin tidak memenuhi standar tinggi badan untuk satu jurusan tertentu. Ia mengindikasikan adanya fleksibilitas, di mana calon siswa masih berpotensi diterima di program keahlian lain yang tidak memberlakukan syarat fisik serupa di sekolah yang sama.

"Jadi tidak menutup kemungkinan ketika di satu sekolah itu mengambil jurusan yang tidak menentukan syarat itu, bisa masuk untuk (yang tinggi badannya) di bawah (standar)?" tanya pewarta yang dijawab Aries, "Bisa masuk. Iya bisa, mungkin jurusan lain masih bisa diterima." katanya.

Namun, ia juga mengakui bahwa untuk jurusan-jurusan tertentu yang secara inheren membutuhkan kualifikasi fisik spesifik, pihak sekolah tentu akan melakukan seleksi yang lebih ketat. "Tapi jurusan tertentu yang mungkin memang mempersyaratkan tinggi seseorang, pasti juga kan mereka memilah itu," tambahnya.

Meskipun informasi umum terkait persyaratan  khusus termuat dalam portal resmi Sistem Penerimaan Murid Baru (SPMB) Jawa Timur, ia menekankan bahwa tidak semua sekolah mengadopsi aturan serupa. Ia menunjuk adanya klausul atau catatan khusus pada petunjuk teknis dalam panduan umum yang menegaskan bahwa, detail persyaratan pada akhirnya tergantung dengan kebutuhan masing-masing sekolah yang memberikan ruang bagi sekolah untuk menyesuaikan kriteria sesuai dengan karakteristik program keahlian yang ditawarkan.
