JATIMTIMES - Operasional Sistem Penyediaan Air Minum (SPAM) Kali Bango di Kota Malang kini menghadapi tantangan serius akibat pencemaran sampah di aliran sungai. Tumpukan sampah yang masuk ke area intake membuat pengelola harus bekerja ekstra menjaga produksi air bersih tetap berjalan normal.
Humas Perum Jasa Tirta (PJT) I Yulia Puspita mengungkapkan, persoalan sampah di Sungai Bango mulai berdampak pada operasional instalasi pengolahan air yang dikelola PJT I. “Rutin melakukan pembersihan intake, Pak,” ujarnya saat dikonfirmasi beberapa waktu lalu.

Menurut Yulia, pembersihan tidak hanya dilakukan di permukaan. PJT I juga menerjunkan tim penyelam untuk membersihkan pompa intake dari sampah yang menumpuk di area pengambilan air baku.
Langkah tersebut dilakukan agar produksi air bersih tidak terganggu. Sebab, tumpukan sampah dapat menghambat kinerja pompa hingga meningkatkan beban operasional instalasi.
Selain penanganan rutin, PJT I juga menyiapkan susur sungai guna melacak titik-titik pencemaran di aliran Sungai Bango. Upaya itu dilakukan untuk mengetahui sumber utama sampah yang masuk ke area intake SPAM. “Akan dilakukan susur sungai untuk mengidentifikasi titik-titik cemar,” kata Yulia.
Ia menjelaskan, pengelolaan SPAM Kali Bango hingga kini masih berada di bawah tanggung jawab PJT I melalui skema konsesi selama 25 tahun. Sementara distribusi air bersih kepada masyarakat dilakukan oleh Perumda Air Minum Tugu Tirta. “SPAM Kali Bango yang mengoperasionalkan kami,” ujarnya.
PJT I menilai persoalan sampah di sungai tidak hanya berdampak pada lingkungan, tetapi juga berpengaruh langsung terhadap efisiensi layanan air bersih. Jika pencemaran terus terjadi, biaya operasional instalasi berpotensi semakin membengkak.

Sebelumnya, kekhawatiran akan kualitas air produksi SPAM Bango muncul setelah adanya temuan beberapa tempat penampungan sementara (TPS) di sejumlah titik sepanjang Sungai Bango.
Beberapa TPS itu pun disinyalir tidak dikelola dengan ideal. Sehingga, limbahnya dikhawatirkan mengalir ke Sungai Bango dan menimbulkan pencemaran.
Tak hanya itu. Kecenderungan sebagian masyarakat yang masih menjadikan sungai sebagai tempat membuang sampah juga dinilai membawa ancaman tersendiri bagi pencemaran.
