JATIMTIMES - Bulan Purnama kabarnya akan kembali terjadi pada bulan Mei 2024 ini. Pada umumnya, seluruh permukaan Bulan akan tampak bersinar ketika memasuki fase tersebut. Jika dilihat dari Bumi, ia bakal terlihat bulat sempurna dengan cahayanya yang terang.

Menariknya lagi, Bulan Purnama yang akan terjadi pada Mei nanti menurut situs Almanac dikenal dengan sebutan Flower Moon atau Bulan Purnama Bunga.

Menurut situs Edukasi Sains Antariksa LAPAN, Bulan Purnama adalah salah satu fase di mana Bulan terletak di belakang Bumi ditinjau dari Matahari. Saat Bulan Purnama, posisi Bumi berada di antara Bulan dan Matahari dalam keadaan relatif satu garis lurus. Bulan Purnama juga sering disebut dengan Full Moon.

Fenomena Bulan Purnama 23 Mei 2024

Dilansir situs Almanac, Bulan Purnama 'Flower Moon' di bulan Mei 2024 mencapai puncak iluminasi pada pukul 09.53 (EDT) pada hari Kamis, 23 Mei 2024. Bulan Purnama pada bulan Mei 2024 juga menandai puncak musim semi di banyak wilayah Amerika Utara.

Asal-usul Nama Flower Moon

Menurut situs Edukasi Sains Antariksa LAPAN, Bulan Purnama dibagi berdasarkan waktu kejadiannya. Penamaan Bulan Purnama berasal dari penduduk asli Amerika yang menggunakan bulan untuk membantu melacak waktu dan perubahan cuaca musiman.

Sejak saat itu, nama-nama tersebut dipakai untuk penggunaan umum. Pada tahun 1955, jenis-jenis bulan purnama ditambahkan ke dalam The Farmer's Almanac.

Nama Bulan Purnama yang digunakan dalam The Old Farmer's Almanac berasal dari sejumlah tempat, termasuk sumber penduduk asli Amerika, Amerika Kolonial, dan Eropa. Mei adalah bulan ketika ratusan bunga, alang-alang, semak-semak, dan pepohonan asli bermekaran di seluruh Amerika Utara.

Selain itu, nama Bulan Purnama Bunga berkaitan dengan hal-hal berikut.

"Flower Moon" telah dikaitkan dengan masyarakat Algonquin, sebagaimana dikonfirmasi oleh Christina Ruddy dari The Algonquin Way Cultural Center di Pikwakagan, Ontario.

Bulan Mei juga disebut sebagai "Bulan Bunga" oleh Jonathan Carver dalam publikasinya tahun 1798, Travels Through the Interior Parts of North America: 1766, 1767, 1768 (hlm. 250-252).

Henry David Thoreau juga mencetuskan nama Bulan Penduduk Asli Amerika, merujuk pada Bulan Bunga dan Carver ketika dia menulis tentang Penduduk Asli Amerika.

Penamaan Bulan Purnama Bunga merujuk pada bunga yang bersemi di halaman saat terjadinya musim semi. Berikut adalah nama lain dari Purnama Mei.
